I connect to a server for accessing and saving documents while I’m at work. The connection is through Ethernet, NOT wireless. Will it drain my laptop battery more quickly if I stay connected, or is there really no power drain for that?

I’ve had a dell laptop for nearly 2 years (will be 2 this january). The battery started to crap out this summer, drastically having its life reduced. Now, when I unplug it, I’m lucky if it lasts a half hour before completely going dead. Originally lasted like 3 hours. I’ve since heard that letting your battery run out at least once a month is good for it; will doing so prevent such reduction in life in the future? Anything else I can do to preserve a laptop battery’s life?

Hey everyone,
My laptop is around 2 months old. I don’t really bring my laptop outside so its always charging. (Battery plugged into laptop). I’m just wondering, is this a VERY easy way to kill the battery, making me having to replace a new one? Or do I have to, charge it until its full, use it, then charge again and repeat?
Note: My Laptop battery only lasts like 2 hour on full brightness.
Putting it in low brightness hurts my eye.

I just bought new battery and it’s my 3rd time buying my ac adapter. my ac adapter always get extremly hot and when my laptop battery is going low it take about 2 hours to charge it back up to 100%. Usually it takes less thant 40 minute to charge it back to full charge. Anyone knows what’s wonrg. Sometimes my air vent on the bottom of my laptop get hot too even though I do not cover it up too.

I’ve just finished watching that kipkay laptop battery hack video, it’s within my ability to carry out the switch of the cells, however I have no idea where I can order the cells from in the uk.They are model se us18650gr. the battery itself contains 6 of them and is rated 11.1v 2000mAh.

Does the battery have to be fully charged each time/ How long does one usually charge the laptop battery after the 3 consecutive deplete-then 12 hour charge routine has been completed?

I use my laptop almost 24/7 and the bottom of it gets hot, almost too hot. I shut it off every now and then usually with the charger in it. Can the laptop battery explode if it got too hot?

I had a DELL Inspiron 2500 laptop, and kept the good practice of preserving the laptop battery by charging it till full capacity, unplugging the AC and using it till a fully uncharged status, but it still gone dead after 10-12 months.

With Lithium Ion batteries on laptops, there’s not much of a problem of battery memory anymore, so one can charge a laptop battery whenever, without having to wait for it to completely discharge.
But what’s better overall for my battery’s life and the environment (i.e. saves electricity), if I keep my laptop plugged in at all times when I don’t need to go portable, or only keep it in enough to charge it, and then let it run off the battery until it runs out of juice?
